VoiceThread for Online Interaction

March 9, 2011

Online students have often felt isolated from classmates and their teacher because many times their only interaction is through email.  VoiceThread is one solution!

A VoiceThread is a free, collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in five ways—using voice with a microphone or telephone, text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues so they can record comments, too.

Users can doodle on the screen while commenting.  VoiceThreads can even be embedded to show and receive comments on other websites and exported to MP3 players or DVDs to play as archival movies.

Go to http://voicethread.com/ to find out more. Click on Browse to see several examples of VoiceThread.  Then sign up for your free account and start your own VoiceThread!  Contact Denise Smith at 327-8030 or dsmith@yorktech.edu for assistance.

VoiceThread is easy to use, fabulous for collaboration, and works on many operating systems, including Linux. Here’s an example from a 1st grade class: http://wwwatanabe.blogspot.com/2011/03/voicethread-your-riddles.html
